Tools and Hardware Reviews of Mr. Heater MRHF273400 Buddy Portable LP Gas Heater

Customer Review: Great little emergency heater
Summary: 5 Stars

In our recent bit of windy weather here in the Pacific Northwest, a number of us found ourselves without power for several days. Without power, even those of us that had gas furnaces or pellet stoves found ourselves getting a bit chilly.

Fortunately, around my house, Mr. Heater came to the rescue.

No, it isn't big enough to keep my whole house toasty warm, but it was just enough to keep one room warm enough to be comfortable in a sweater, (even with a window cracked open for ventilation) and spelled the difference between being able to stay at home and having to try and find a hotel.

One bottle of propane lasted about six hours on the low setting. The heater is small, light and easy to store and the propane cylinders are available at any hardware store. (Coleman uses the same one for their propane lanterns.) They were smart enough to print the operating instructions right on the unit, knowing that most folks will not be able to find an instruction book when this would be most needed.

If you live in an area that even occasionally loses electric power, this is a must-have item.

Customer Review: Reliable and easy to operate

We just completed our first camping trip using this heater and were very pleased with its performance. The outdoor temperature was in the low 40's, the wind was blowing at 15 with gusts to 20, and it was frequently raining. We brought a fully charged 20lb propane tank and a 10 foot extension hose so we could keep the tank outside the tent. We used the heater for about 10 hours on each of three nights (30 hours total). On two nights it was on high the whole time and on the third night we cut it down to low after about 4 hours because it was getting too warm in the tent. Even on the coldest nights I was comfortable in my shirt sleeves, but my wife was still a little chilled - her natural state. The heater was very stable and is easy to operate.

We also used the same propane tank for all of our cooking - breakfast for 4 people for 3 days, lots of hot water for coffee and dish washing for 3 days, and dinner for 4 people on 2 nights. And we've still got some gas left.

From another perspective, if not for the heater we would have had to get a motel room - the heater paid for itself in one night.

Customer Review: Perfect for all applications!

I purchased this unit to use while ice fishing, hunting, and in my garage during MN winters. I first used it for ice fishing. With a 10x6 shack with no floor, I definitely needed an additional heat source to assist with a single Buddy sunflower type heater. This little guy keeps my area nice and toasty, and my hole ice-free, while the sunflower keeps the majority of the air at a comfortable temperature. Nice and small, it is very easily transported to and from our fishing spot(s) for warmth wherever! For hunting, this keeps my feet and hands nice and warm in the stand so I don't have to fumble with gloves or pull my hands out of my pockets when the time comes. Also, this thing runs silently, so I don't spook any dinner away! And in my garage, this keeps my work bench area warm so that I don't have to use gloves while trying to mess with small screws/nuts/bolts. I wouldn't recommend this as your sole heat source for any area above 5x5, but it is a perfect addition to a larger space heater for more concentrated heat in specific areas. I couldn't be more satisfied with it!

Customer Review: Outstanding Heater!

I can't add much to what good that's already been said about this heater. It's safe and works like a charm. I CAN put to rest the the "filter" issue the one joker has been harping on. There's no doubt it's the same idiot making this bogus claim. In their last post they said "my manual says that if you use the unit with bulk propane, it "must" only be done with their official connector dongle and filter" Uh huh... Well here's a suggestion for anyone that wants to see this liar exposed. There's a link in this ad section where you can view or downloand the manual for this heater. Read through it or do a search for the words "filter", "dongle", or even the word "bulk" and you WILL NOT FIND IT. There is ZERO mention of this imaginary filter. Nor will you find it in any of the documentation that comes with your heater. The filter doesn't exist! Whoever made up that filter and has kept coming back to the reviews harping on it has some serious mental problems. Give it a rest already!

Customer Review: Personal Protection Equipment

I just received order.....price was right. This is not a furnace...I tested it for next adventure. This is a flameless radiant heater....its effect is radiation upon objects like your body or furniture....infrared. Designed to be close to you....NOT a space heater that warms air. Read and understand instructions.... I had a single burner propane stove in my tent safely overnight but when I stood up, flame burned my shirt. 'Buddy' has no flame but safety precautions must be heeded. It can be used outdoors to heat you in work area lacking wind. If power goes out, ideal 'in your face.' Fuel (propane disposable bottles) is inexpensive and readily available. 'Buddy' is large compared to radiation area but light in weight and very safe. In a cold confined space, 'Buddy' is better than hot Campbells tomatoe soup. The 'Big Buddy' heater may be better as it uses two elements and two propane bottles for not much more in cost and has option of electric fan.
