Tools and Hardware Reviews of Mr. Heater MH25NG 25,000-BTU Natural-Gas Radiant HeaterCustomer Review: Might be fine for outdoors Summary: 1 Stars
I have this in my garage, walls are insulated, not ceiling yet and doors have big gaps. It ran for several hours while I wasn't in there an previous days to break it in and check it out. On another day, after an hour of working in the garage I was getting sick and headache, carbon monoxide poisoning. It stinks too. What do you expect when it's not vented? I learned my lesson the hard way. It says right in the instructions to leave a window open. Kind of defeats the purpose of heating if you ask me. Who wants cold air rushing across the floor of a garage when you're working out there? This is my second one because the first had flames coming through the honeycomb part. The second one did too. Checked and double checked pressures etc with a heating guy, after several phone calls the Mr. Heater tech says as long as the flames shooting out of the unit are blue it's OK. B.S.!! My MH40 doesn't, which incidentally stinks and causes CO build up without an open window. I scrapped both of them and paid a little more for a tube heater and blower type heater.
They might be fine for outdoors but I wouldn't use them indoors unless you want to lose some brain cells.
Customer Review: dangerous / be careful Summary: 1 Stars
I have just gone through my 2nd unit with the same problem. My Carbon Monoxide alarm has been going off. Something with Mr. Heater's quality control or packaging is seriously wrong.
This isn't my first rodeo with this model. I bought one 6 years ago and worked with good success. No C.M. alarms....ever.
so when the original unit started emitting natural gas fumes, I was told my their tech support that it's almost cheaper to buy a new one. So I bought the exact same model recently.
When the new unit arrived, the valve assembly mount looked bent. Sure enough, it was burning extremely hot and out of control.
when the next replacement arrived, it looked fine. It also burned hotter than normal (flames over the top) and began emitting Carbon Monoxide.(set off my alarm)
Also the thermostat had to be set at 40 degrees to maintain 70 degrees.
Amazon has been very good about taking care of the problem with me. Hats off!
Mr. Heater on the other hand needs to not be so arrogant (based on my calls to tech support)and address their quality control problem!
