Tools and Hardware Reviews of Mr Heater MH18B Portable "Big Buddy" HeaterCustomer Review: Portable Fireplace Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this to heat my E-350 van while camping. The amount of heat from a single element (on the low setting) is plenty to cook me out of the van. I can only run it for 15 minutes before it just gets too hot in there. Also be aware it needs a good 36 inches of space above it to prevent excessive heating of what ever that material might be.
I also purchased the low pressure extension hose to provide fuel from a 20# cylinder. This is to warm up my garage. In that space it needs to run on high with the little fan running but will bring the temperature up about 20 degrees. I use an area fan behind it sometimes so I don't have to buy D cell batteries.
This is a great little heater, and with the 20#cylinder serves as a portable fire place in emergency.
Customer Review: how i like my heater Summary: 5 Stars
i love the heater very much. when i have it on, my furance never kicks on. it is well worth its money. i bought another brand from another company. and did not like it at all. when it was on my furance still kicked on.which was no good for me . if my furance still kicked on i didn't need the heater.this one i really like. how i got it was a friend had bought a small one and a big one ,but didn't have the big one on. only the small was lit. and i throught if the little one does that good, than the big one should do lot better. i called lowe's and they had sold out and was not getting anymore in his year, why i don't know it was still winter, so i got on the internet and ordered one.thank god for the internet.i am going to get a outside tank for it next year.
Customer Review: BIG BUDDY IS MY BUDDY Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this heater a month ago to heat my garage 20x32 just over 600 sq ft well insulated. So far i have gone through about two 20# cylnders running the heat at least every night for 2-3 hours and on weekends 6-7 hours a day. The temp in the garage has never dropped below 35 deg, and from there it warms up to 50-55 degrees in about an hour running on high makes it warm enough to work. I have an ac adapter from radio shack pretty inexpensive less than $10.
All in all i would highly recommend the Big Buddy heater it works great with throw aways although you throw away more than empty cylnders compared to a 20# cylnder. I last bought a 40# cylnder, if that gets me through a month that is reasonable enough to get through the winter.
Customer Review: susman.kona Summary: 5 Stars
The thing is well-made and has worked flawlessly for us (about a month). Lights instantly always, runs clean, and really puts out some warmth. Not seeing any of the difficulties mentioned in other opinions. This is the larger model, and we usually use the medium output rate to heat a leaky 600' garage on 49-degree nights. It can eat a pair of propane canisters in a couple of nights, D batteries last longer for the fan. But the way to go for us has been a 5-gallon propane tank and the plug-in AC adapter to run the little fan. Makes it way cheaper and more practical. The 5 gals lasts about two weeks. You can't really adapt to the fittings in the unit yourself, so buy the tank adapter/regulator, and the AC adapter with the unit.
Customer Review: Great heater! Summary: 5 Stars
Great heater so far! We used it to heat our 20ft RV trailer, had it on the "Lo" setting and it lasted about 8 hours on (2) 1 pound propane bottles. It's awesome that you can purchase the attachment and hook it up to a larger propane bottle which is what we plan on doing so the heat will last longer. But anyways, when the desert was about 30 degrees and windy outside, it kept our trailer at a nice 70 degrees on the LO setting. Too bad it doesn't have a thermostat so you can't adjust the temperature. Our friend has the regular Buddy (not the Big Buddy) and it heated his 18 ft RV trailer on LO and he got up in the middle of the night to turn it off since it was getting too warm.
Great product. Would recommend!
